Otxangoa
OTXANGOA has its roots in the Basque Country between land and sea. This name reflects the connection between the O of the wave Olatu and Txangoa which evokes the path and the excursion, thus mixing the two worlds which are dear to Nelly Fontaine, the founder and creator of recycled denim espadrilles .
Manager of a design agency in the world of sport and the outdoors, she created Otxangoa as a “ laboratory ” to test different approaches between innovation and eco-design , by making strong commitments:
- Contribute to reducing the ecological impact ;
- Raising awareness among younger generations about water protection through its partnership with the Water Family. For each pair of espadrilles purchased, 1 euro is donated to this association;
- Reduce waste by giving a second life to end-of-life jeans;
- Limit overproduction by manufacturing only to order and in short supply chains;
- Relocate production to France ;
- Preserving local employment and know-how : the making of espadrilles is entrusted to Stephan, a passionate craftsman based in Mauléon for 3 generations, since 1947.
The materials used to make the espadrilles are completely vegan : simply rope, rubber, and recycled denim! All sewn with love!
